Born in Puerto Rico and proudly carrying her Boricua roots, Sonia has called Tampa home for 14 years, solidifying her status as a cornerstone of the local dance community.

With an impressive 23-year career in dance and 21 years of teaching, Sonia is renowned for her innovative, non-traditional classes that have transformed countless students into confident dancers. Her expertise spans Salsa On1 and On2 (Puerto Rican and NY styles), Cha Cha Cha, Lady Style, spinning techniques, shines, advanced musicality, and her highly sought-after workshops in turn patterns, jury perspective, and costume-making.

An Accomplished Career
Sonia has trained with top instructors worldwide, including in Cali, the capital of salsa, where she immersed herself in the Caleño style. Her credentials include certifications as a Salsa instructor by Stacey López and as a Judge by Billy Fajardo, with whom she spent six years on the World Salsa Summit judging panel. She has been invited to judge prestigious events internationally, including competitions in Guatemala, Cali, Guadalajara, and the esteemed El Crown event.

An Artistic Visionary
Sonia’s artistic contributions are vast, boasting over 300 choreographies performed across 23 countries and countless U.S. cities. As a Stage Manager, she has directed major events such as Aventura Dance Cruise, Tampa Salsa Congress, Sarasota Salsa Congress, and more. She also served as Artistic Director for the Children’s Congress, a project led by music producer Edwin Rivera.

A Star of Stage and Screen
Sonia has shared the stage with iconic artists like Oscar de León, India, Richie Ray, Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, and Sonora Ponceña. Her film credits include appearances in Havana Nights and El Cantante starring Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez. In 2016, Sonia was honored at the Los Angeles Salsa Congress by Albert Torres, recognizing her contributions to the global dance community.

An Entrepreneurial Spirit
In recent years, Sonia has pursued her passion for costume design through her company, Diamond Collections, creating over 300 costumes that have adorned champion dancers on the world’s most prestigious stages. Additionally, her online platform, Diamond Talks, preserves the stories and legacies of famous dancers for future generations.
